New Project start! Star guardian Soraka

I’m starting a new project Star Guardian Soraka! This is one of the skin lines from the game League of Legends and I’ll be doing my first duo cosplay with my friend @AllieCatCosplay. She’ll be working on Star Guardian Lulu so we can compete together on stage at a convention this summer.

I’m really excited to be doing a project that’s more of a feminine design so i can use glitter and pearlescent paint! Her build is going to be really big but I’m really looking forward to all the challenges it’s going to give me. New projects always have new hurdles to jump through and i think Sorka will have some really fun ones like the wings!

Getting started

A drawing of star guardian soraka

The first thing I always like to do when starting a new project is to make a line art drawn over an outline of my own body. Doing this enables me to know how certain details are going to fit on my body and a rough estimate of how much material I’m going to need.

Another great thing about making a line art is that you can start trouble shooting for your costume. So for Soraka she has hooved feet and i really liked the idea of making that effect for the costume. I know I wont be able to wear those shoes for the entirety of a convention day so I thought up a way for the shoes to be swapped out to flats so I can be more comfortable.

Another thing I’ve been able to think through for Soraka from the sketch is the wings on her lower back. I was able to think through the harness attachment, and mechanics for the wings to open and close. The Harness will go under the main costume and the wings will be a simple pulley system I can open and close.

This project will also be my first stab at making my own silicone molds for the gems, hooves and diamonds you can see through the costume. This will be a completely new skill I’ll be learning, I’ve used premade silicone molds in the past just pouring resin inside but I’ve never made my own. I’m hoping making my own molds will be another skill to push me that little bit further in the competition.

My next step in the project will be fabric shopping! We’re planning to go to the fabric district in Houston to shop around for different textiles so our costumes match! This costume will be a huge undertaking but I’m really excited to start this new project for Star Guardian Soraka! Check out my Instagram for updates throughout the build process!

Pattern making panel powerpoint Available now on Ko-fi!

My first panel was this past weekend “learn to make your own patterns for cosplay” and it went better than I expected! The room was almost full at 10am on a Sunday which is a feat in itself.

We had a 1 hour time slot and when the powerpoint was concluded we did an interactive block. During the interactive section I invited people up to make their first patterns with my assistance. The interactive section was a ton of fun and the guests were able to take home a pattern to get them started on making!

After the panel was over I had many people stop by my booth and ask further questions about how I create patterns for more difficult shapes, and ask for advice. A few even expressed they wished they could rewatch the powerpoint presentation, and I couldn’t let them down. Since there was so much interest I uploaded my powerpoint to my Ko-fi page for free! This powerpoint is meant to be updated for future panels so look out for updates. If you want to know where I’ll be hosting this panel next check out the updates section on my blog!

Powerpoint Content

Learn to make your own patterns! this is a slide from my powerpoint presentation on pattern making on gathering references

This powerpoint includes 21 slides packed full of content. The powerpoint covers gathering references, making your own references, pattern making materials, and how to get started making your own patterns.

There are several video demonstrations within the powerpoint, showing some patterns I’ve made in the past as examples. The video section starts with a snippet from my striga day armor bracer tutorial, and you can watch the full video here. The videos then go on to show you the pattern building process for Striga’s pauldron and leg armor.

I hope after watching my powerpoint you feel confident making your own cosplay patterns. If you have any questions on how to get started feel free to DM me or email me with questions! You can contact me on instagram for the quickest response.

I'm going to be a Guest at OniCon 2022!

I’m going to have my first guest spot at a con this November 11-13 at OniCon In Galveston, TX! I’m going to be one of the judges for the Cosplay Contest that takes place on Saturday at the convention. I’ll also be hosting my own patterning panel on how to create cosplay Patterns.

If you plan on attending the convention please come say hi! Throughout the weekend I’ll be spending free time at my booth where I’ll have prints of my favorite cosplay pictures available to purchase. You can find my booth location near the artists alley.

As an Onicon guest I’ll be hosting a panel at 10 am on Sunday on how to make your own cosplay patterns. At my panel we’ll have a live demonstration where you can create your own pattern to take home.

I’m really excited for the interactive section. It’s something I don’t see alot of informational panels do. I’ll be standing there to help you through the process so you can learn how to pattern like me! I’m really looking forward to it so please stop by!

Along with being a guest I’ll also be debuting a new costume! I’m finishing up my Black Cat costume from the Marvel comic series. I’ll be wearing her for the first time on Saturday of the convention.

For the weekend costume line-up I’ll be wearing Noelle from Genshin Imact on Friday. I’ll have my Striga day armor on display at my booth. On Sunday I’ll be wearing Esdeath with a brand new sword gifted to me by @fabledQT

I hope to see you all there! Come stop by my booth if you have the time and please if you see me lets take a photo together!

New Sewing Pattern Available!

Hey guys! I Uploaded a new cosplay sewing pattern and tutorial just before Halloween! This Tutorial has 8 pages of detailed instructions with diagrams to walk you through the process of sewing your own Ghost Face Robe from the Scream movie series!

I started making this project because my boyfriend is a huge Scream fan, and I wanted to make him a Ghost Face robe with a fabric more accurate to the movies. However when I was researching the Robe I noticed a severe lack of guidance online when it comes to sewing your own robe. So I decided I would document the process of making a robe and share it with all of you!

I gathered all of my references for the robe from the first scream movie, gathering dimly lit screenshots, and sketching out the basic shapes. I took my partners basic measurements and used those to draw my pattern shapes on big sheets of paper, then I got to sewing. When the robe was all finished we did a photoshoot and I digitized my pattern and wrote up the instructions step by step for anyone to follow! It was a lot of hard work but I finally have it published on Etsy to download! I hope you guys like it!

Photo Shoot

To celebrate finishing my Ghost face robe pattern we did a little photoshoot! We reached out to a local photographer and I bought some cheap materials for a quick Casey Becker costume. I managed to find a cheap wig on amazon and thrifted a sweater I wouldn’t mind destroying.

Our set was a cute little Air BnB in a residential area, we wanted the set to look as close as we could reasonably get to the first kill from the first scream movie. Once we were all set up get got to shooting! The first stills we got were In the kitchen with the iconic stove popcorn, and house phone. As we moved further through the shoot we ramped up the spook factor in the photos.

It was an interesting challenge to try and look scared in photos. Most photoshoots I try to be either cute or intimidating, but never scared. I couldn’t stop laughing in between takes, especially for the “kill” photos since we had to be posed so strangely for the shots.

Overall I had a really great time and it was really fun to commemorate the pattern with photos we can keep forever!
